What's warm, shiny, and awesome all over?

Oh happy day!

I write this post on my new MacBook Pro! It finally came and now I have it. I got it this afternoon at like 4:45. Talk about last minute before the weekend. I am so thrilled. It’s been a long time coming. Of course, I get the MacBook Pro like right before the new and awesome MacBooks come out, but that’s ok. I’d like to think that I have a system that will most definitely work well, unlike a newly released model with new technology.

So tonight I’m doing what any nerdy computer lover would do with a new toy. I’m playing, customizing, patching, installing, and experimenting. I also spent some time today organizing my Days of Our Lives files onto an external hard drive so that I no longer have to do my silly EJami work while at work. I no longer have to go in on the weekend, I can do it all here! I’m so thrilled about that!

Besides the great technology acquisition, I also acquired some new yarn at Shuttles today. I believe it’s my first yarn purchase of 2008. Crazy huh? I’m pretty proud of sticking to my stash, but also realistically I haven’t been knitting enough.

I’m currently in the process of making a pumpkin hat for my halloween costume. Needless to say, I’m going as a pumpkin. I actually think it’s going to turn out pretty cute.

Last night I went to dinner with some college friends in Denver at Racine’s. We had a nice time as always and it was good to see them. Sometimes though I have these doubts that they like me. I think I’m too distant and that makes them angry. I can sort of understand. I just feel so far away from them because I’m here in Boulder and most of them live in South Denver and Parker. Plus I’m not the best at talking on the phone.

This weekend I have quite a bit going on. Besides all my computer play and knitting, I need to continue making a logo for my friend Jason’s aquarium business. I’ll be going to an Obama rally tomorrow on campus, where there will first be a march to the Rec Center for early voting. I’ll be cheering people on as they go vote. Then after the vote, we’ll head over to the outdoor theater for a performance by Ben Harper and an appearance by Zach Braff. It should be pretty fun. Sunday night I’m going to a birthday dinner for my friend Tina, so all-in-all pretty fun times ahead. I’ll be sure to report.

"Autumn Knowingly Stares"

I know it’s fall when…

1. I get out the crock pot.

I made a delicious pot roast today. It was the best I’ve ever made. I followed Paula Deen’s recipe, except I used Beef Broth instead of water.

2. I stock up.

I went to Costco today and stocked up on all sorts of stuff. Less trips to the store in the colder months for toilet paper, paper towels, and some other staples.

3. I want to knit and read.

I want nothing more than to cozy up in my big chair with a book and my knitting. I will finish those perfect storm socks, and I’m going to make a pumpkin hat for my halloween costume. Plus, I’m reading the Twilight series, which is perfect for this time of year.

4. I go to bed early.

Now that it’s getting lighter outside, I’ve been retiring earlier and earlier. It’s great to get in bed and read and get a good night’s sleep, especially because it’s so dark when I wake up. I feel like I’m not being cheated. I’ve been up here for the past hour.

5. I’m more organized.

I definitely take life a little slower in the fall, but when I’m not moving so fast I remember more. I also have a strong desire to be more organized around the home and in my office. I feel like even now I have a better grip on my life than I did two weeks ago.

Never Let Me Go

Sep 13, 2008 by

Sometimes beginning the post is the hardest part. Ever notice that?

Well after the Ikea elation died down and we realized it won’t actually be here for years, I decided that I probably shouldn’t plan out my life according to Ikea and just chill out!

September 11 came and went. It was a cold and rainy day on campus. I was busy with a variety of work things. I ended up yelling at a program manager in front of 15 people. My soap box was mighty and I stood upon it proud. I basically said what everybody else was thinking. When did I become that person? Apparently my confidence is firmly in place, where before there was only a shadow of it.

Then yesterday when all of my work was done, I decided to say fuck it and just goof around on the Internet and make a new EJami montage. I did it from EJ’s point of view and I used a song by Bono. It was a bit of a sexy overload, since it has James and Bono. What a great combination.

Last night there was some EJami drama on the boards actually. TV Guide in Canada posted an episode title called “Nicole is Pregnant”. Nicole is the anti-Sami who EJ slept with in July when he had given up all hope on being with Sami. Well the title got pulled off almost immediately afterwards, but I could still see it. People on Windows couldn’t see it. Needless to say, a lot of my friends went nuts over this. There is all kinds of backstage drama on the show, and some rumors coming true right and left. Let’s just say that the head writer most likely hates Ali (the actress who plays Sami). It seems hard to believe because she is such a darling. There’s a lot to the story. All I know is that if Ali is no longer on Days, then I no longer watch it. I know that she is all about EJami and wants that for her character, and when a writer writes out of spite because of past transgressions that is not cool. It’s not about their egos, it’s about the audience. I think I need to re-watch “Soapdish”.

Okay, back to real life though. This morning I received some beautiful tulips (my favorite) from a special person to celebrate an anniversary of sorts. I love them!

Oh tulips, how I love you so.

I made some progress on my sock last night. It’s coming along slowly. After this post, I’ll probably get back to it.

It's coming along, sloooooowly.

The rest of the weekend is free and clear. I have a lot of laundry to do. I will probably work out two more times (loving the treadmill by the way), and I think I’m going to do some baking and watch some football!

Also, back to television for a second. I’m currently watching Fringe, which is okay. Thankfully it is not as scary as the advertisements made it look. And I love me some Joshua Jackson. One of my favorite shows, Psych, had it’s season finale last night. God I love that show. It couldn’t be more perfect. I can’t wait for it to come back in January. Shawn Spencer is the best.

Treading Style

Sep 6, 2008 by

So yesterday was a cold rainy day. It was perfect! It really made me look forward to the fall. I had taken the morning off to greet the UPS man who would be delivering my treadmill. I had to make an appointment with UPS Freight. I worked all morning to get a project done for work, and then it arrived around 10:30. What happened next was ridiculous. The UPS man started to complain and didn’t stop until he got back in his truck to leave. He complained about how heavy the box was mostly. He was supposed to bring it to my front door. I have about ten steps that come up to my porch. They are wide and easy to climb. He had a special dolly for climbing stairs. But he just complained and complained about it. He brought the box to the foot of the stairs and then said he wouldn’t do it. Frustrated and just wanting him to leave, I agreed to have him put it in my attached garage. I figured it wouldn’t be too hard to carry it upstairs piece by piece.

So he drops it off in my garage and continues to go off about how he couldn’t find my apartment. How “these things” are impossible to put together and he would never buy one. How they told him he had to be there before noon because I made an appointment. He complained about everything. And then finally he left. I was so completely pissed off. I just wanted to yell at him “THIS IS YOUR JOB! LIFTING HEAVY THINGS AND DELIVERING THEM IS YOUR JOB. FINDING APARTMENTS IS YOUR JOB!” Thank god shipping was free, otherwise I would have gone bat shit crazy. I’m still contemplating calling his supervisor.

Anyway, I went back to work and the afternoon dragged on. After that I came back here with Mike and he helped me bring the treadmill pieces upstairs. The platform was so incredibly heavy and bulky. We had to bring it all the way out of my garage and around the front, up those same stairs, all without a dolly. It was really hard and I wanted to cry because I was so upset with the UPS guy. Well we left all the pieces on my first level. Mike came back over with the girls last night to help me put it together. He did an amazing job putting it together for me! But we decided to leave it down here. It’s now bulking up my dining room, which doesn’t make me too happy. But I’m going to try it out an see if I can tolerate it down here. Otherwise, we’re going to need three burly men to try and get it up the stairs.

Nothing says style like a huge black plastic and metal piece of exercise equipment in your dining room.

I am really excited about it though! At least it will be in my face reminding me to use it! It’s got speakers and will play music off my iPhone, so that is cool. It took like eight years to get one, and I finally got it, so I am very happy.

So for my weekend, I have a few things going on.

First, I plan on making significant progress on this sock. I don’t plan to finish it, but I plan on getting like half done.

The never ending perfect storm socks.

I also need to go to the store and clean my apartment. Then tomorrow I am going to a scholarship dinner for my sister, with my dad. It’s on campus, and I’m guessing I’m going to eat more UMC catering. Eh. But I am so happy for my sister getting a scholarship. Good for her!

So he's 6'2" apparently

Much like the one I saw today!

Much like the one I saw today!

So I’m glad to report that got my ass out of that chair and actually came into work today. Although I don’t feel terrible, I’m still very weak. The slightest thing wears me out. Thank god I have a cushy office job where I mostly sit at my desk. I can’t wait to get home tonight and get back in that chair.

It’s already gotten considerably cooler the past couple of days. God I love the fall. I’m starting to feel the knitting bug again. All day today I’ve been thinking about knitting. I should take another class. There’s this cute sweater I want to make, so I should take the sweater class.

As for work, I feel as if our peak has already ended in our walk-in center downstairs. I think we’re still getting a lot of calls, but not nearly as much. I read that 2/5 of the freshman class brought an iPhone or an iPod Touch. Crazy huh? I love it!

Today in the UMC there was a life size cut out of Barack Obama. I want that for my office! I was going to take a picture of it but then chickened out. I actually recognized this one guy at the table who I met through volunteering. He’s a nice guy and I can probably thank him for getting me into the DNC. My sister can definitely thank him for her tickets. I need to go back and do some more volunteer work. This time though I think I’ll just stick to data entry. I could also make some meals for them. My baked ziti could be the perfect meal. They need all the energy they can to keep up the good fight.
