Easter 2010

Apr 4, 2010 by

Sorry for the unimaginative blog post title, I’m a little knackered after this jam packed weekend. Today, was Easter and it was a very nice day. I didn’t get it spend it with my whole family, which would have been awesome, but I did get to spend it with my mom, step-dad, Marissa, and Johnny. We had a really nice afternoon.

There was food….

And there was lots of sitting around the table…

And there was our traditional egg cracking game….

Which I have to tell you a side story about. My father’s side of the family has been playing this game forever. It’s traditional Lebanese or more likely Mediterranean, because it was in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. But it’s flat out a thing that most Malouffs do at Easter. Even Malouffs, that I’ve never met, who I’m not even really related to, like the Maalouf and Maloof families. And because of the wonder of Facebook, I’ve friended a few Malouffs that I’ve never met. There’s a million of them all over the world. Our crazy Lebanese clan is just everywhere. So, I saw this woman post about the game and it made me so happy. She also describes how it’s played.

Well, even without my dad here today, we played the game.

Michael had the winning egg, which is one that Johnny decorated the night before. He beat Johnny to win. The irony!

And of course there was a lot of love….

Christmas recap

Dec 30, 2009 by

Christmas was wonderful this year. Everything went as smoothly as possible, minus a little bit of a cold that tried to keep my down. I really celebrated the season this year with Christmas baking and buying my loved ones lots of excellent presents. In return, I got some wonderful things as well, which include a Kindle (my absolute favorite thing) and a Tassimo coffee maker.

Anyway, here are some photos from the holiday.

The Christmas Baking

I made my usual fudge, chocolate chip cookies, and tea cakes. I haven’t made tea cakes in years, and I’m so glad that I did. They were by far the highlight of all the goodies.

Pueblo for Christmas

I went to Pueblo, as usual, and had a wonderful time.

Here’s my mom’s tree.

And here are some portraits I took of Marissa and Johnny.

We made a Mexican feast (another family tradition), and even made our own tamales! It was quite a feat!

And then I caught my cold! I went to bed that night with the shivers and I couldn’t get warm. I had a sheet right out of the dryer, an electric blanket, a comforter, and a quilt. Yet, I couldn’t get warm. That night was not so good, but I refused to let it deter me from a wonderful Christmas morning.

We woke up and had French Toast and coffee and then got to the business of opening presents.

Later, I went to my dad’s house to celebrate. We had more Mexican food (which is sort of hilarious that we’re all a bunch of white people…well, not hispanic so to speak). We had a fun time! Although, I must admit that my illness was trying to get the better of me.

Christmas 2009

It was another great Christmas! And the break from work was wonderful.

I also got a snuggie, some movies, some new pajamas, and some other heart felt gifts.

It’s that special time of year

Dec 10, 2009 by

I posted some of this pictures on Facebook, but I neglected to put them over here on the blog. Last weekend I got my Christmas decorations up. It’s always a bittersweet experience. Lots of memories from my past get exposed and some of them are great, others make me sad. But I guess that’s what this season is all about. Feeling a little more than you do the rest of the year.

So here’s some pictures….

Dec 06 2009: Christmas Decorations

I’m grateful to have a nice little Christmas spot in my house where I can contain it all and it doesn’t spill into other areas.

I got these two ornaments on my trip to England. I love them! And Marissa totally wants to steal one. Here’s a helpful tip. Always buy a Christmas ornament when you travel. It brings back the best memories when you pull them out each year.

PENGUINS and SNOWMEN together?!?! It’s crazy I tell you, and freaking adorable.

The round, blue ornament  is my most precious one. It’s from my very first Christmas in 1979. I guard it like it’s gold.

Oct 23 2009: Cleopatra

Oct 23, 2009 by

Last night I got my Halloween costume in the mail! I’ve decided to be Cleopatra. The concept has always been on my list all these years, but it usually got supersceded by something else. Well this is the year for it. I have the perfect hair cut, now all I need is some black eyeliner. Speaking of eyeliner, I actually recently finished a pencil. I’ve never done that before. I sharpened it and sharpened it until there was no more. So I’ll get to wear this to the Matthies Halloween Party next Friday. I’m looking forward to it.

Today at work, it was another crazy day of getting as much done as I could for IdM. I stayed until 5:30, and then went to a birthday dinner for my friend Matt. It was a nice time. I was going to go to the after party at a bar, but just couldn’t make it that late. This week has officially kicked my ass, and I still have so much work left to do over the weekend.

Jul 04 2009: Independent Advantage

Jul 4, 2009 by

Today was not the most exciting 4th of July in my time, but it turned out all right. I had Marissa and Johnny over for a very traditional barbecue. We ate hamburgers, warm cherry pie a la mode, and watched Knocked Up. How very American! I thought about joining them in Boulder for the fireworks show, but decided to stay in. I hoped that I would be able to see some Fireworks from my apartment, but I didn’t hold my breath. Well it turns out that I could see them, and well. So I grabbed my telephoto lens and from my balcony took about 100 photos. Thankfully, I had read some fireworks tutorials on the Internet this morning, but alas I’m still not completely trained, so I got a few good ones and then some duds. Somehow seeing the fireworks made my day and I felt like I really got to celebrate the holiday.

Happy 4th of July!
