May 20 2009: Grill

May 20, 2009 by

I’ve been wanting to get a grill for a long time and I finally got one today! I gave Brian our grill when we separated, so I’ve greatly missed having on. And when you’re on a diet, it’s almost essential.

First meal, cheeseburgers. Not the healthiest option, but delicious!

May 19 2009: My Buddy

May 19, 2009 by

My cat Penny came into my life via Brian. She was his cat or more like he was her person. She loves Brian and for the longest time loved him more than she loved me. In general, she just likes men better. Now that Brian has been away for a long time, Penny has finally and fully warmed up to me. She follows me all over the house and wants to be close to me all the time. I’m so glad!

May 10 2009: Thhoup

May 10, 2009 by

Three years ago today I was in Ireland, and it happened to be Bono’s 46th birthday. Sadly, Bono is now 49, but that’s not the point of this post. The point is that I went to the store today and spent a boat load on fresh foods for my week off of work. Part of that load included the ingredients to make this delicious turkey-sausage soup. At only 300 calories a bowl, it certainly was hearty and good. Especially for the rainy day that we had. But back to Ireland. While there, Brian and I searched for dinner one Sunday night and couldn’t find anything. At one pub a bartender (with a serious lisp) offered some unappetizing soup thhoup. We declined and laughed our way to McDonald’s on Grafton Street for the best fast food we ever had.

The potato in this Ireland story is only a coincidence.

May 07 2009: Quite A Different Day

May 7, 2009 by

Today I stayed home from work sick. I’ve been feeling a little under the weather the past couple of days, and so I decided that a good rest might help. So today was a sick day, and I’ve basically been piddling around my apartment in gym shorts and a t-shirt, no make-up, and chaotic head of hair. It’s a bit hilarious, though, because it so completely contrasts to what happened three years ago today. Back in 2006 on this day I got married. What a wonderful event. I loved my wedding so much. It’s a shame that it’s been so complicated ever since, but I’m so happy that we’re on good terms and that we can both look back at that day and really get a kick out of it! So today, I took a couple of minutes to go through my only wedding album and remember what that day was like. I certainly looked a hell of a lot better than I do today!

One day I need to complete the real wedding album with color photos!

Bamboo Therapy

Apr 24, 2009 by

A fairly long time ago in a galaxy not at all far away I got engaged to be married. Getting engaged was fun and filled with promise. Some friends of ours held an engagement party for us and at said party my dear friends Amanda and Jeremy gave us a Bamboo plant. It’s the one and only gift that I remember getting from that event and the one that meant the most. Probably because Amanda told me that “it’s supposed to bring you good luck,” and I for one don’t want to mess with a force like bamboo.

So I nurtured that little plant as I planned my wedding, and it flourished after the big day had come and gone, and by the time we were moving apart and splitting up it was thriving.

September 2007

My bamboo plant was one of the first things I took to my new apartment. I swore to myself that it would live on even if my marriage did not! Well a year and a half later and an apartment that isn’t conducive to keeping items out of two little cats’ reach, my bamboo is….what’s the right word….ill, sparse, decrepit, desperate?

So now it’s been moved to my office, where it will live with the only other plant I’ve managed to pull back from the grave time and time again.

I call him "Spidey"

After a little trim and little verbal love (I’m not joking), I think it’s already looking better.

Feeling a bit better the next day.

I suppose you could call my bamboo a metaphor for my heart, but that’s much too serious for a Friday morning.
