Day 24 – New Gym

Jan 24, 2011 by

Today was pretty great. I made excellent progress on my big project (although it still feels like a dent) and I got to finally visit my new gym. It’s been a rough few weeks with being sick and lack of time, but now I have a solid schedule and so I can start going.

This gym is fabulous! Check it out here. It’s not cheap, but it’s so worth it to have such wonderful amenities.

Tonight I did two miles on the treadmill and went to a Yoga class focused on increasing flexibility. Afterwards, I hit the showers, because I had to take advantage of their super nice showers and locker rooms. At some point I am so going in the steam room and definitely going in the hot tub. In the locker room there is even a relaxation room. RELAXATION.

The only trouble is that I went over there at 4:30 and ended up leaving there at 7ish. That’s a little too late for my taste, but I guess I’ll have to adapt ;)

(Did I mention they have a spa? Oh dear. Good thing I’m saving money using coupons.)

Day 23 – Spreadsheets

Jan 24, 2011 by

My current big project at work requires that I spend a lot of time entering information into spreadsheets. So you would think that I would steer far clear of them on the weekend, but I decided that the time had come to make my own spreadsheet to help me keep track of my coupons. If this doesn’t work, there might just be a database.

Anyway, Sunday is clipping day and so I decided it was time to get really organized. Now I don’t have to carry them to work and I can really plan from where ever I am (thanks Google Documents).

For my coupon buddies, when I have finalized it I’ll post a copy of it for you to use as well, along with some instructions.

Day 22 – Phase 10

Jan 24, 2011 by

Oh the glorious weekend. I was so glad for it to come. I actually had some plans outside of the house, which you know I’m not a huge fan of (I’m a very serious homebody). Going to the Burkes, though, is like being at home and so laid back.

We had pizza and cookies and played Phase 10. I haven’t played that game in a good long while. The last time was with Brian, maybe before we got married. Sheesh. I totally forgot all of the rules and spent about twenty minutes reading through the rule sheet, which annoyed my friends. I couldn’t help it! I love rules.

I totally lost by the way. Big time. I got stuck on Phase 3 forever.

Day 21 – A Nerd and a Whiteboard

Jan 24, 2011 by

White boards…they are everywhere at work. Sometimes I use mine, sometimes I don’t, but this week I put it good use. After a long discussion with Mike about Doctor Who, I had to sketch out where River and the Doctor’s timeline intersect.

I’m not even sure I’m right, but it sure was fun to debate!

Day 20 – Dinner Disaster

Jan 24, 2011 by

I’m an okay cook. In fact, over the past few years I’ve gotten pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but decent. Tonight was a different story. The plan – to make chicken picatta. The outcome – a very burned piece of chicken. There was a lot I did wrong (the heat was too hight, the chicken wasn’t pounded thin enough, etc). It was horrible. And poor Mike. He ate it, along with some black sludge sauce. GROSS.

Day 19 – Waiting With Friends

Jan 20, 2011 by

It never fails, at some point during the winter (or spring), meteorologists will totally underestimate a storm and we will be hit with a few inches of snow in a short amount of time right before the evening commute. The last time this happened I went on a terrifying THREE hour journey for what is usually a fifteen minute drive.

This sort of storm happened today and so I dreaded that drive home. We left as early as we could (around four), but even getting to the car took longer than it should, and getting off campus took a half hour. While I had brought along a lot of snacks and water and such, it was looking dreadfully slow. My friend David called us and said that he was heading back to work to eat something and wait it out until traffic ceased. Since we had basically gotten no where, we decided to do the same.

It was the best decision ever. While our poor co-workers spent two to three hours in their cars we got to hang out and eat and watch some stand up (that’s my iMac that I brought in the conference room since I didn’t have my laptop).

Day 19 - Waiting With Friends

David monitored the traffic reports and when it looked better, we hit the road. It took at most 30 minutes to get home, but we were moving the entire time and it was so much better, particularly because Mike’s tires were spinning a lot whenever he had to start from a stopped position.

I heard from one co-worker that he stopped too to eat dinner and get a haircut. That cracked me up.
