Spring Break

Mar 28, 2010 by

Spring Break is as good as it can be for me at this point in my life. First, the students are away, so campus is nice and quiet. And then we get the Friday off, so there’s a nice three day weekend to be enjoyed.

When I look back on this past week, it’s be completely random and long and crazy and slow.

First, the weather was up and down like mad. We had a huge blizzard on the front range, and I had exceptionally poor timing. I got stuck in it and it took me three hours to get home. I’m truly surprised that I didn’t get physically stuck like so many of the cars and buses that I passed in my little blue Civic. I love my tires.

When Friday arrived, I felt like I had lived two weeks in one. So this weekend has been all about relaxing. I’ve done some baking and a lot of reading. Truthfully, if it wasn’t for this blog post, this weekend would be forgotten away, that’s how low impact it has been.

I did snap some pictures though…

First, I couldn’t resist capturing one of the meals we had. Pigs in a blanket. I had never had that before, and I was promised that they’re very good. They were indeed.

And then the cats. Persephone was incredibly needy. I say that past tense, which is a mistake. Even at this very moment, I’m pleading with her to give me a little bit of space. She’s wanted to be in contact with me this whole weekend.

And Callie has been resting on her blanket, which is truly her blanket. The other cats don’t want anything to do with it. She spends eighty percent of her time on it. When she’s not there, she’s getting herself into trouble one way or another. I love her kitten-tude.

And Penny. The scavenger. I locked the cats out last night because I needed a break from them. Because both doors were closed, they were really unhappy they couldn’t sleep with somebody. Especially Penny. She woke me up this morning and compelled me to open the door. She was so happy to get into my room. She’s so sensitive.

So the furry ones have made their mark on the weekend.

Then, last night was one of my favorite hours of the year….it was Earth Hour! It’s where you turn off your lights for one hour. I love this! Last year was so great, and I got all ready for this year. I decided to once again write during that hour. The words didn’t quite flow like they did last year, but it was a good start.

March 2010

Next year, I’m thinking about throwing a party. I think it would be great to enjoy the company of friends (well, more friends than I had last night) to sit around and drink wine and talk by candle light. Is that too silly? It sounds like perfection to me.

It’s Madness, Man

Mar 21, 2010 by

It’s that special time of year…the time when I ask myself “Why do the Buffs suck so bad at sports?” The time when I watch more basketball in the span of a few weeks than I do the whole rest of the year. It’s time for the tournament.

I love it, because I love to make picks and hope beyond hope that I end up on top. Beating out my friends and relatives. Yeah, I’m like that.

Anyway, it’s been a fun tourney so far, even if I picked Kansas to win it all and they lost in the second round.

Besides watching tall young men run back and forth, there’s been a lot of napping, a lot of eating, a little bit of reading and quite a bit of movie watching this weekend. All in all pretty well. Oh, and I went to town cleaning the downstairs carpet. Today I do upstairs and laundry.

The best part of my weekend though is that my friends Amanda and Jeremy had their baby!! She was due on March 17, and so when I wouldn’t hear from Amanda for extended periods of time I wondered if it was time. Sure enough, yesterday was the day. I’m so happy for my dear friends!

Spring is here my friends and things are looking up!

15 Days

Mar 19, 2010 by

That’s how long it has been since I posted here. That’s simply ridiculous. I apologize dear readers.

The truth is, I’ve been so busy with work that my writing has become an after thought. I hate that! I used to be able to squeeze in a post here or there on my lunch break or between meetings, but essentially, that’s been squashed. I guess that’s how it is supposed to be.

My job is really good right now. I’m feeling recharged and really motivated. I also have been learning so much lately, about web development, collaborative tools, and all kinds of stuff. I’ve embraced the fact that I actually do know what I’m talking about when it comes to technology and that strangely, I’ve become a relatively important person that people from across campus listen to. So strange for the girl that was once a student employee. I’m really happy in my professional life, and that is awesome!

Life outside of work has been pretty good too. I got a haircut yesterday, which is always rare for me so it feels significant.

Last weekend was spent working, but this weekend should be much more relaxing! I’ve once again filled out a bracket for NCAA Tournament. It sure makes those games interesting! I have a feeling there will be a lot of basketball watched this weekend.

Anyway, I hope you all are well!

PS….have you seen the new trailer for Eat, Pray, Love? I’m not the hugest Julia Roberts fan, but I think it looks amazing! I never ever re-read books, but I’m thinking about it for this one.

PPS…James Franco as David is perfect casting.

Losties

Mar 6, 2010 by

It’s been a long week. I was sick for part of it, but healthy for most of it. While at work, I worked hard, and barely had a free moment to tweet or play or pay a bill.

TV was great this week. Loved The Office, with Jim and Pam’s baby. So adorable. I’ve watched the episode twice already. Also, for the past year, I’ve been trying to catch my friend up on Lost so we could theorize about the show. As of yesterday, he is now completely caught up. It’s fun! We’ve never been on the same page, because I’ve always been so ahead. I’ve now seen every episode twice, which definitely helps. And boy-oh-boy does watching Season Five over again really put things into perspective.

If you haven’t heard, Sunday is the Oscars. Usually, I try my best to see everything that’s nominated, but it’s been hard to do so this year, particularly because of the Olympics. It also doesn’t help that there are 10 freaking Best Picture nominees. I hate that. Before the big show, I’ll be watching “An Education,” “District 9,” “The Hurt Locker,” and “A Serious Man.” Leaving just “Precious” and “Up.” I’m also for the first time ever watching all of the Live Action Shorts that are nominated, because Comcast has them bundled into one movie for $2.99. I always have to guess on my Oscar ballot for that category, this year I can actually make an educated guess!

Anyway, not much else to report. Here’s a couple of new pictures of the kitties.
