Jul 31 2009: A Neglected Prize

Jul 31, 2009 by

Back in JUNE, I won a drawing for my friend Nancy’s book contest. Nancy is this wonderful person that I met on my EJami fan board. She’s also a terrific writer and tells quite the saucy tale. Anyway, she sent out my prize (from CANADA), and it was delivered to my leasing office back in JUNE. I missed the the delivery slip and it just sat there and sat there and sat there. Today I got a call that the package had been sitting in the mail room for over a month. Eek! So I rushed right over and got it.

Thank you so much Nancy for the package. I love it! And the surprises were great!

Check out Nancy’s site at www.ejamie.net

Besides the cool writers journal, theres also some CDs, bookmarks, and a postcard. My favorite part might be the handwritten letter. My Internet friends are the best!

Random Friday – The “too many irons in the fire” edition

Jul 31, 2009 by

The bit about the irons…

I had a conversation with a friend today about how I can’t sit still. He marveled at my ability to go to bed every night knowing that I did something relatively creative during the day. It’s true. I don’t remember the last day that I didn’t produce something. I have a hard time being an observer. I’m much more active. I’m a crafter. Whether it’s writing, scrapbooking, knitting, designing, or photography (my most recent favorite), I can’t not do something that has some sort of end result.

I’m not writing about this brag. Not even a little bit. I find this way of life very frustrating, because it becomes increasingly difficult to complete something. I lack focus. In the past forty-eight hours, I’ve written two chapters of a new story (just for kicks), edited about 500 photographs, started a Tumblr blog (although I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it but of course I have ideas), and made progress on the never-ending socks.

There are a lot of crafters out there. I know this because I read their blogs and admire their end results. The crafters that I follow are amazing men and women that are relatively focused and have no problem completing a project. I really need to learn how to focus. But that’s never been me.

The bit about work…

Work is busy as usual for this time of year, but I did get my publications done and delivered (mostly). That’s always a huge relief for me.

The bit about my trip…

My upcoming trip to England is pretty much always on my mind. I cannot wait to go. My mind obsesses over the details and I’m cosntantly strategizing about how to be prepared. Today’s obsession…should I get some sort of netbook to bring with me, that way I can have a computer and potentially write. A huge motivation for going to England was because I’m writing a story that takes place there. I have so much to check up on and confirm. And what if I feel inspired? It would be great to have an outlet. Of course I’ve come up with all other sorts of uses for it, but we shall see. I’m not very impulsive, so I’ll mull it over for a while.

The bit about the weekend…

Not much going on (except a thousand projects, see above), but I do have a birthday party to go to! I love little parties. I’m really looking forward to it and I’m going to bring my camera. Hopefully I won’t be too shy and my friends will be cool with me taking pictures. It would be nice to photograph actual life instead of the wallpaper.

The bit about the Photo Walk contest…

Well the results are in, I got fifth place out of nine top entries. I’m delighted! I posted my photo on a Scott Kelby Flickr group and have also received some positive feedback, including a message from the admin of a photo group that wants me to join because he liked my photo. So that’s very cool and encouraging.

Jul 30 2009: Clean Up

Jul 30, 2009 by

Nothing much to report about today. Basically, I worked, watched TV, and did a little cleaning. Most definitely an average Thursday.

Pledging my way through the house.

Jul 29 2009: Atypical Wednesday

Jul 29, 2009 by

For starters, I was under-the-weather today, so I didn’t go to work. And then the weather was just funky. It felt way more like a day in October than a day in July. We had the afternoon rain shower as always, but the temperature was actually quite cold. I pretty much just watched TV today and worked on photographs.

Grey and rain. So not the usual July.

Encouraged!

Jul 29, 2009 by

This morning I got an exciting e-mail message from Nasim, the Estes Park photo walk leader. One of my photographs was picked for the top group for voting! There were 52 submissions total, and nine selected for the group to vote on. The winner will be submitted as our group’s best photograph for the broader Scott Kelby photo walk competition. The other eight photographs in the group are fierce, so I don’t have much hope of it being chosen as the best, but I don’t care! This alone is enough to make me delighted and keep me going. It really is a fun hobby.

Here it is, Main Street Details.
