For a really long time I’ve wanted to get a digital SLR camera. My point and shoot camera works all right, but it just isn’t the same. Since I’m going to Europe in the fall, I wanted to get a great camera far enough in advance to be able to learn how to use it so I can take great pictures. So with the reminder of my Best Buy credit I made the purchase today! After listening to my friend David, I decided to go with a Canon, and since I’m new to all this I started with a EOS Digital Rebel XS 10.1-Megapixel camera. And I got a package deal, so I got a 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Zoom Lens to go with it too.

The hardest part so far was waiting for the battery to charge! But once it did, I went for a little nature walk in my apartment complex and took some photos, and of course I took pictures of the cats. I can’t wait to really learn how to use it!

Here are some samples from today’s shoot:

Weigh-in: June 27, 2009

Jun 27, 2009 by

Yay!

Yay! I

Well the good old scale was my friend this week! After a gain last Saturday, I tried my hardest to stay positive and not get discouraged. I weighed in on Wednesday for my Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans (TEAM COCOA!) challenge, and lost that extra pound I had apparently gained. Well it just keeps getting better and I am down another 2 since then! Hopefully, I can maintain or lose more in time for Wednesday’s weigh-in!

But I am also so thrilled because I finally hit my 5% goal!! I now feel great about buying my Wii and EA Sports Active.

Date Weight Loss/Gain Total
5/9/09 –Start– 0
5/16/09 -4.4 -4.4
5/23/09 -4.6 -9.0
5/30/09 -0.2 -9.2
6/6/09 -0.2 -9.4
6/13/09 -0.4 -9.8
6/20/09 +1.0 -8.8
6/27/09 -3.2 -12.0 (First Goal Reached!)

My next goal is to reach 10% loss.

Some days I completely forget to take photos. This was one of those days, which sucks because I did quite a bit that was picture worthy. But alas, it must go undocumented. I think my head is in the clouds too because work is just a bucket of stress right now and then when I’m not working, I’m thinking about it, or thinking about Photoshop. How dumb, right? Me not taking a photograph really symbolizes how the end of June is in my life anyway. Too busy.

At least I could make something pretty to replace a photo.

Something new for me

Jun 26, 2009 by

So for the past few nights I’ve been exerting my creative energy on making my own digital scrapbook papers and embellishments. I can’t even remember why I got started doing this, but I’ve been having a blast doing it and I wanted to share it with you fine people.

Storybook Creator Plus & other Creative Memories Goodness

First and foremost, I am a loyal Creative Memories customer. They have some of the most amazing stuff at really good prices. They also have, hands-down, the best software I’ve ever tried for digital scrapbooking. I use Photoshop and Fireworks on a daily basis at work (and to make these kits), but for art of actual digital scrapbooking, their software Storybook Creator Plus is amazing. Trust me, save yourself a lot of time and effort and get this now. It’s well worth $60. You are not just stuck with using Creative Memories products with the software (although you’ll probably be unable to resist their goodies).

Paisley Party!

It’s got a lot of paisleys, but it’s the colors that really make this one nice. Purples and greens are so soothing to me. It has 20 pieces of paper and 3 coordinating embellishments.

And here they are in action:

Jun 25 2009: Village Inn

Jun 25, 2009 by

As you know, Michael Jackson died today. Strange. I’m not sure how I feel about it and anything I say about the life he led will be said by millions of others. But I will share two things. Thriller was the first album that I “owned” as a small child. I remember listening to it on a chunky walkman while riding in the car with my family. And it’s that memory of being small and being with them that makes this day unique for me. And the second story is that both my brother and I thought the lyrics to Billie Jean was actually Village Inn. My mom remembers my brother in particular singing, “Village Inn is not my lover!”

Ever wonder why he loved to wear pants that were too short?
