DSLR
For a really long time I’ve wanted to get a digital SLR camera. My point and shoot camera works all right, but it just isn’t the same. Since I’m going to Europe in the fall, I wanted to get a great camera far enough in advance to be able to learn how to use it so I can take great pictures. So with the reminder of my Best Buy credit I made the purchase today! After listening to my friend David, I decided to go with a Canon, and since I’m new to all this I started with a EOS Digital Rebel XS 10.1-Megapixel camera. And I got a package deal, so I got a 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Zoom Lens to go with it too.
The hardest part so far was waiting for the battery to charge! But once it did, I went for a little nature walk in my apartment complex and took some photos, and of course I took pictures of the cats. I can’t wait to really learn how to use it!
Here are some samples from today’s shoot:

Nice pictures! Here kitty kitty kitty.
Nice! Your kitties are beautiful!

Thanks Jen!! I think they know it to…they are so self-absorbed
Great start! DSLR’s are the best. Are you planning to learn to use it in manual settings, or just go all-auto? I used mine on auto (which was a million times better than my P&S camera) for a solid two years before learning any other settings!
(Now I only use auto when I need a flash – I prefer to never use the flash!)
Yeah, I hate the flash! I’m anti-flash almost always. I’ve been using the programmed settings here and there, but trying to manually set things too. I’m so excited to get really into it!
I’m jealous, that is the exact DSLR camera I want! I am hoping maybe for Christmas Santa will bring me one. Congrats on finally getting away from the shitty point and shoot. I am convinced it is the reason I don’t take pictures much anymore. It just sucks. You’ll have to let me know how you are liking the camera.
Well if you need any good book recommendations, let me know! I’ve ready quite a few.
Websites, too. Oh particularly a great 12-week free class I took online about a year and a half ago!
It’s pretty awesome so far Amanda! I would love to see what kind of photographs you could produce since you have one of the best eyes around
