Happy Happy Hour

Oct 18, 2008 by

I had such a great week! I got out of the house a little bit more than I usually do and work seemed to fly by. I also found out some great news from a friend!

On Wednesday I went to watch the last fall softball game of my friends from work. We had planned on going out to dinner after their game, so I was excited! The game didn’t go so well but that didn’t really matter too much. We went to Rock Bottom and got our own room for dining. I got to sit right in the middle so I was able to talk to pretty much everybody at some point. I had fun laughing with Mike, Kevin, and Greg the most. Those guys are hilarious!

So as if one outing wasn’t enough for the week, we had two! Mike had planned with Dave N. happy hour on Friday after work. So right after work about eleven of us went over to CB & Potts to have drinks and appetizers. I ended up getting a little drunk, which was fun. Once again I got to laugh the night away with Mike, Kevin, and Greg, and then eventually my co-worker Sean was traded out for Greg. We stayed there for about three hours and it was a blast. Even hanging out with my boss was fun.

All those people are coming to Mike’s halloween party on November 1, so we talked about our costumes and what we would drink and all that. Everyone wants to see me get really drunk, but I don’t know if I’m too into that. A couple of years ago I had way too many vodka shots with David C. I don’t want to repeat that! I’m so glad that there will be some new blood at the party. The past couple of years have gotten kind of stale, so the influx of new people and their spouses should make it interesting!

So the great news is that my friend Jay and his girlfriend are having a baby! I can’t believe it! I am oh so delighted for them.

Weekend Goals for 10/18-10/19

Oct 18, 2008 by

Last weekend I posted some goals and to-dos, and it turned out to be so helpful in accomplishing those goals that I thought I would do it again for this weekend! So here goes…

  • Clean the kitchen.
  • Scoop the litter and clean that space.
  • Go to Costco and Target.
  • Do some cooking and get food ready for the week.
  • Knit my pumpkin hat for halloween. REVISED: knitting Mike’s sock.
  • Do laundry and plan my outfits for the week.
  • Read. Read. Read.
  • Workout.

Hopefully I will be as successful as I was last week!

And he takes, and he takes, and he takes

Oct 14, 2008 by

That’s a line from one of my favorite songs, “Casimir Pulaski Day” by Sufjan Stevens. He’s talking about God and death actually, which isn’t terribly uplifting, but I do really love it!

If you have never heard Sufjan Steves’ work, you are seriously missing out. His album “Illinois” came out like three years ago and I still listen to it all the time. So good.

Speaking of new albums coming out…Snow Patrol (another big favorite of mine) has a new album coming out at the end of this month. It’s called “A Hundred Million Suns”. I do love Snow Patrol, so I’m pretty excited. But let’s be honest, I love bands that have that sound. If I type “Snow Patrol” into Pandora it basically creates a playlist of music I already own. It’s that whole English/Scottish/Irish thing that gets me going.

Speaking of things that are British (and Irish….and Scottish, but I guess that’s British, although I’m sure they would disagree), I’ve just about had it with liking those kind of boys. Not too long ago my sister and I were having a conversation about our celebrity crushes. We decided to do a top five. Five that we would ultimately cheat on our mates with if given the opportunity. I’m not kidding, not one of my guys is American.

My five, in no particular order are:

James Scott

James Scott

Bono

Bono

Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler

Jim Sturgess

Jim Sturgess

Colin Firth

Colin Firth

And I have a ton of runner ups (Ewan McGregor, Clive Owen, Jude Law). I got a thing for boys with accents like that. I know that doesn’t make me unusual or special, because a lot of American ladies melt at that accent. I don’t know why it just gets under my skin. What’s funny is that I’ve had a few encounters with British boys in my time. They weren’t particularly attractive or anything, but I seriously had zero chemistry of any sort with them. In fact, I literally became enemies with one of them, but that’s another story for a different day.

You may be wondering what the point of this all is. Well, I’ll tell you a little story. I’m just sitting back enjoying the new Twilight trailer for the millionth time and I’m starting to crush on the actor who plays Edward.

Not another one!

Not another one!

I’m not overly obsessed with all this like a lot of fan girls and boys are, so I don’t know him. I feel like he looks familiar but I don’t have a clue. If you watch the trailer, and you’re unfamiliar with him, it’s seems to be an American kid playing the role. My “I fancy him!” meter begins to rise and I actually think to myself, wow…for once an American guy. Hooray!

Yeah, not so much. Did a quick google search on the actor, and sure enough, he’s British. It never ever fails. And in case you didn’t know, he’s Cedric in Harry Potter.

So now I’m wondering if I just have crushed on so many hotties from across the pond that I just know their look and I’m instinctively aware of their kind. Like maybe I have some sort of uncircumcised, potentially bad teeth, likes malt salt vinegar detector? I mean seriously, if you take a look at the five guys in my list, they all have physical similarities. Maybe it’s something about their look matched with their voice? I don’t know.

I’m beginning to doubt that I will ever land another foreign man (Martin being the last, from Luxembourg) in my lifetime, but a girl can dream right?

Is it November yet?

Oct 13, 2008 by

Seriously. I really need it to be November. Don’t get me wrong, I love October. It’s a great month and this October has been awesome. But I REALLY need it to be November for many reasons, but here are the top three:

1. The election really needs to get here so we can get done with this.

2. For November sweeps Days of Our Lives will actually get good again. The current shit that they can barely call a show is so incredibly sucky at the moment.

3. The Twilight movie. I cannot wait for this the more I Think about it. I think the movie will actually blow the book away. A new trailer came out a couple of days ago. I’m just now so excited for it!

Cozy Weekend Finale

Oct 12, 2008 by

My cozy cold weekend was productive, relaxing, and spent with loved ones. Today was spent all day inside doing things around my house like cooking and cleaning and doing laundry, while taking moments to relax and enjoy myself. I finished reading Twilight this afternoon. Overall I enjoyed it. It like book candy. Or maybe more like book crack. If you pick it up you turn the pages so quickly wanting more and more. I know a couple people who read it in one day and practically in one sitting. I’m really looking forward to the movie.

I accomplished almost all the things on my list. What’s funny is the one I didn’t complete in the slightest was plucking my eyebrows. I can’t find my tweezers! So that will have to wait a little bit longer. I did a whole bunch of cooking today. I made some egg noodles to go with the casserole, and made two big pieces of chicken in my crock pot with some celery and carrots. It was delicious. I also made some brownies today. I got our lunches for the week put together and made our menu, so I’m good to go on the food front.

Now I’m just upstairs enjoying the “West Wing”, a warm brownie, and a glass of milk. I’ve brought up my knitting so I can make some progress on that, while I continue some laundry. Around 9:30 I’m going to take a warm bath, relax, and then get in bed and fall asleep.

Persephone, the laundry, and my perfect storm sock.
