Hallelujah!

There have been a few announcements that I have been beyond excited about in the past few years. Said announcements led me to twitter with excitement as the waiting commenced for them to arrive. These include, but are no limited to:

  • Denver hosting the DNC.
  • Apple releasing a cell phone.
  • Some of my dear friends having babies.

And today I can add one to the list! It was announced that Denver is finally getting an IKEA!

Now, if I had never been to an Ikea before I might just be kind of excited and curious. But last May I lost my Ikea virginity while in Seattle. I was wondering through the behemoth with eyes wide open and my credit card burning up in my pocket. I had to resist the temptation to go completely crazy and and spend all available funds on all new stuff. After all I was a couple thousand miles from home with no way to take it with me.

So I had a little pep talk with myself and decided that the Ikea life just wasn’t for me. I accepted it and moved on. Sure, every now and again when I started daydreaming about something new for my abode, my mind would wander to that little Ikea corner in my mind, where I recall the fantastic desks I saw or the interesting art work. But I suppressed it.

A dream for so many Coloradans has come true. I already have a list of stuff I want to buy. And on the top of this list is their rad sofa bed that I got the chance to sleep on in Seattle while visiting Amanda. I can finally turn my guest room into the office and gym I always wanted.

You will be mine. Oh yes. You will be mine!

You will be mine. Oh yes. You will be mine!

So the waiting begins.

One dream fulfilled, one more to go for us. Because everyone I know has said “Great! Now can we get a Trader Joe’s?”

Goddamnit, well of course once I MOVE. Oh well.. I am happy for Coloradans everywhere. We like Ikea quite a bit, but we have admitted that when we “grow up” and buy a house we will most likely NOT furnish it with stuff from IKEA. Except maybe it would be great for Kid’s furniture, because they outgrow it and beat it up so badly.

So speaking of friends having babies, I have some news. NO I’M KIDDING. I have been dying to see some pictures of some of our work friends’ babies. SHARE!!!

  2. I am so psyched about Ikea! Not so much about the furniture, but I love their sheets and other textiles, and all the great kitchen stuff. They’re great for holiday shopping, too.
