Recap Post 5 of 7: DNC Volunteering

Jul 27, 2008 by

The Democratic National Convention is just around the corner, and the city I live in is so lucky to be hosting it! This is a political nerd’s dream come true. Well maybe not if you’re a conservative political nerd. Anyway, I signed up to volunteer at the DNC months ago, and yesterday was the orientation session. My sister who is the uber-volunteer agreed to do this with me. I don’t know how she fits it all in. The orientation was at the Convention Center, and there were about 2,000 folks there.

I debated whether or not to actually participate for awhile. The traffic will be horrible and it might be tiring work, but I’d love to look back on this historic event and know that I got to be a part of it, and that I didn’t miss it because I’m lazy and like air conditioning.

The orientation was actually kind of lame. It started off really great and I was pumped up, then we had to go through customer service training. It reminded me of Ken, and so consequently I wanted to barf. But it was fun to do it with my sister. We have signed up for the same activities and time slots. I hope we can do it together. If not, that will be a good experience for me as well. It would be nice to get outside of my comfort zone, and maybe I’ll meet a cute Democrat.
