Recap Post 6 of 7: Perfect Storm Socks Reemerge
So I’ve picked up my knitting needles again and decided to make the second half of Mike’s “Perfect Storm” socks. I started the pair last November, finished one sock in about a month or so, and then started work on a different pair. It’s a pretty intense sock, and I wanted to do something kind of mindless. So now I’m back working on the second one. It’s actually nice to not work on something mindless and takes some thought.
I’m almost done with the cuff, and then it’s onto the pattern.

Recap Post 5 of 7: DNC Volunteering
The Democratic National Convention is just around the corner, and the city I live in is so lucky to be hosting it! This is a political nerd’s dream come true. Well maybe not if you’re a conservative political nerd. Anyway, I signed up to volunteer at the DNC months ago, and yesterday was the orientation session. My sister who is the uber-volunteer agreed to do this with me. I don’t know how she fits it all in. The orientation was at the Convention Center, and there were about 2,000 folks there.
I debated whether or not to actually participate for awhile. The traffic will be horrible and it might be tiring work, but I’d love to look back on this historic event and know that I got to be a part of it, and that I didn’t miss it because I’m lazy and like air conditioning.
The orientation was actually kind of lame. It started off really great and I was pumped up, then we had to go through customer service training. It reminded me of Ken, and so consequently I wanted to barf. But it was fun to do it with my sister. We have signed up for the same activities and time slots. I hope we can do it together. If not, that will be a good experience for me as well. It would be nice to get outside of my comfort zone, and maybe I’ll meet a cute Democrat.

Recap Post 3 of 7: The Required Work Update
So I finished my Getting Started booklet without any drama (virtual knock-on-wood) and it’s at the printer. I’m in the midst of all sorts of other projects so it is busy. Starting with my next paycheck, I’ll start seeing my 15% raise. I’m pretty excited about that. Anything helps. My student Brooke is graduating and I’ve been a little bit worried about her replacement. Brooke has been great and I’ve been able to rely on her so much. I’ve got my eye on another student that works there and needs more hours. I think she’ll be interested in working for me and then I won’t have to go through the whole student search, which sucks.

Recap Post 2 of 7: The Old Roommate Gets Hitched
The weekend following the fourth of July, I was up in Beaver Creek for my freshman year roommate’s wedding. It was a beautiful event and the weather was perfect all weekend. It was a classy event, small, and intimate. There were soooo many good looking people there. Meredith’s husband Brian is an investment banker and so all of his friends from college and co-workers had that 80s Wall Street kind of preppiness to them. I’m not going to lie, they were all good looking and wealthy. I’m sure they all have some skeletons in their closets, but a girl can dream right?
I drove up there with my friend Kim and Candice. We stayed at a lovely place in Beaver Creek. I had my own room, which was well worth it. I love having my own hotel room. It’s one way that I love to pamper myself now that I’m an adult and I can afford it. Katie and Kevin met us up there and that was it in terms of college friends. I missed my dance buddies Jay and Scottie who didn’t make the wedding.
Here’s a picture of the happy couple:
Brian gave the sweetest toast I’ve heard at a wedding. It was funny, romantic, and perfect for Meredith. He talked about how this was her retirement party. I thought for a second that he was going to say that she could quit her job, which would be a great gift, but he meant from all of her worry about finding a husband and having a family. When I thought about it, I know that was something that Meredith did really worry about ever since I knew her. She’s always wanted to have those things and I’m so happy for her that she’s gotten them.
