A different kind of 4/20 & Guest Room Done!
Today, as some may know, is 4/20, which means a lot of things to a lot of people, but to the pot smokers of the country (and maybe the world, I don’t know), it means get high all day. At the university I work at it, students in the hundreds, maybe thousands, come together and smoke pot on university grounds. Every year there are a few arrests, but mostly it just happens. I guess you can’t argue with tradition. I used to be a pot smoker back in college, and so I loved 4/20. I would take off work and everything. My roommates and I would get prepared with delicious snacks and funny movies. We would buy a new pipe or make sure we had a bong. It was all together typical.
Now that I’m past that, I actually try to be as productive as possible on 4/20. It’s like the antithesis of my older self. So I have a whole list of things I want to do around my house today.
Meanwhile, my 20 year old sister (who attends the same university) is totally enjoying the holiday the way I used to.
At any rate, here goes something I’ve been talking about for a while…
This weekend I finally redecorated my guest room. More like I decorated it for the first time. I spent $125 on the room, and I am quite happy with the results. That amount covers all the decorative items I bought, baskets, down comforter and duvet for the bed, and artwork.
Here are some before and after pictures.

I’m pretty happy with the results. I feel weirdly accomplished and I think it is because I’ve always wanted to have a nice guest room and not a storage room. When I moved in with Brian nearly five years ago, I planned on making a nice guest room for our guests. Instead it became the repository for all things that I felt didn’t belong in the rest of the apartment. It was a hodgepodge of items, decorations, etc. There was no flow and mostly it was just cluttered. When I moved to my new place, I had the same aspirations. It took me six months, and I finally have done it!
I type this entry from my guest room because I have put my laptop in here and it is an enjoyable place to be. My goal for this week is to leave my laptop in here. I think that it will be very helpful to me and break me of nightly ritual of looking at stuff on the Internet as I watch TV. I have a feeling that I will spend less time online, and the time I will spend will be better quality.
So we’ll see how that goes.

I am finally getting caught up on blogs! I really like what you did with your guest room, very cute! It is amazing what a few accessories can do!
As for the grey and Brian stuff, I think you’re doing an amazing job. Just keep listening to yourself and the path you “should” take will be clear. Actually to me it looks like you’ve already chosen; there are just distractions along the way that sometimes make you question it, but don’t worry. You’re doing great, and there’s nothing wrong with being on good terms with Brian and appreciating him for who he is regardless of whether you stay with him or not.
