Holiday-Phobia and Socks

Nov 1, 2007 by

Halloween was never a good holiday for Brian and me. So yesterday should have been a nice day without him. I could do whatever I wanted to do and I didn’t have to convince him to do anything. As the night went on though I couldn’t help but remember where I was a year ago and so I got sad. I was married and living with my little family in an apartment that I had thought of as my home. I think that will be my problem with holidays in the future, it makes it so easy to remember what you were doing on that day in previous years.

Brian and I didn’t spend Halloween together last year, he was at work. I was actually quite upset that night for reasons that I won’t get into, but it had to do with our relationship and my feelings.

I remember crying that night and wondering where I would be a year from then. So last night I was reflecting on the past year and considering where I am now and how I got here. This is partially depressing because I am alone now, which makes it really easy to start feeling sorry for myself. I try to remember how alone I felt last year at this time even though I was with somebody, and that brings me some comfort.

I’m just amazed at how much can change in one year. I wonder where I will be next year at this time. I’m definitely looking for answers but I know there’s no spoiler I can read. I just have to wait and see.

Because I was feeling a little down this morning, Mike wanted to try and cheer me up with a present. He bought me a new book called Easy Knitted Socks. I’m so excited to take the socks class at Shuttles, and once I really know how to make socks the patterns in this book will be a snap!
