InDesign In My Heart

May 15, 2007 by

So my InDesign class is over and I’m a little sad. Being in class has been fun. Especially when the topic is something I am incredibly interested in. After the class I went to Barnes & Noble and went a little book crazy with my A-Card. Mike told me that we needed a CSS book, so I bought the definitive guide and the cookbook. I also ended up buying some interesting graphic design guides. Now that I am learning how to do things officially I would like know all the rules. A couple of times my instructor said “if it’s done that way then you know it’s someone new to desktop publishing,” in reference to bad design. I don’t think I’ve ever designed the bad ways she was pointing out, but I had no idea that it was a rule of thumb either.

The book we used in class. I’m excited to read the rest

This class has definitely peaked my interest. How great would it be to have my own business someday doing desktop publishing. There is so much more I need to know. Maybe just maybe, if I don’t have my own business I could maybe work over in University Communications, on the west side of the fifth floor.

I am enrolled in the advanced class, which will be much better for me. I was by far the most advanced student in class to the point it was embarrassing.

So tomorrow I am back to work, bleh. Although I am starting Weight Watchers tomorrow! I sort of went crazy on dinner tonight with this in mind. What a mistake. I am more ready then ever to start at WW.

Recapping Just to Recap

May 14, 2007 by

Well I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t update on the weekend. But I guess that’s the weekend for you!

Today I was in an InDesign class down in Aurora. It was pretty fun. I was by far the most advanced student there, which sort of sucked. But I did learn some new tricks. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better.

My weekend was good. Friday night we went to the Rockies game. That was great. Gosh I love the Rockies. We got there during the third inning and the Rockies were off to a great start, but lost it in the end. We had pretty good seats in Club. After the game we went home and went to bed.

My sister and her friend were coming back from Phoenix and needed a place to crash. They got here around 2 a.m. We were long gone by then, totally asleep. I think I heard the door unlock, but that was it. My dad showed up on Saturday to pick them up. We had a quick lunch and they were on their way.

The rest of the day was kind of lame.

So yesterday was Mother’s Day. We went to my mom’s house in the mountains. It was nice to be out in nature. We had a good lunch and then went for a long walk. I could tell my mom was pretty excited to see us.

We came back down to Denver and we bummed around. We made frozen pizza and watched Shrek. It was actually really nice! We went to bed around 10.

So that’s it in a nutshell. I did work on some knitting and made the second bootie. It was way better than the first one. So I think I will make a third one so they match. Once it’s done I ‘ll post some pictures.

Baby Bootie, 1 of 2

May 11, 2007 by

So I figured out increasing. Duh. My problem before was that I wasn’t going into the back of the yarn to make the first loop. So I started the bootie again last night with this knowledge and it only took me a couple of hours to finish it.

I think that my second bootie will be much better than this one:

I like this project. I will start on the second one maybe this afternoon.

Lady Night

Tonight I am on my own because Brian is at the Rockies game with his boss Clyde. Coincidentally, my boss Mike is also at the game with some other guys from work (Mark, Kevin, and this professor who teaches History of Baseball). I wish I could be there! But alas, I have a vagina and that prohibits me from being invited to such penis activities. Even though I know more about baseball than those guys (Mike and Professor Baseball excluded).

That’s ok though because I am catching up on all my shows and I plan on studying CSS coding tonight. I got a great hands-on training book about CSS, and it’s taught me a lot. The new web site will be CSS based and so I need to be great at it.

I’m watching Lost right now. I was talking to Amanda today about it and we both agreed that it’s getting really interesting and good. I read that it will be around until 2010.

Graduation is upon us and so it was crazy on campus today. Tomorrow will be worse. Making life even more complicated today, Boulder High went on lock down mode because a cafeteria worker apparently saw two masked people in the building before school started. They did a search of the school and found nothing, and so they closed down 19 buildings on campus near Boulder High just in case they went on campus. By mid-afternoon they reopened everything.

Tomorrow summer hours begin and I plan on actually working the 7:30-4:30. If it was ever possible to get there that early, this is the summer. All I have to do is get up with Brian! Last night I was back on schedule. We got in bed at 9:30. It’s so nice going to bed that early.

And finally, just because I found this picture yesterday on an old memory card and Amanda posted such a cute picture like this one, here is Peresphone:

Mmmm….Cake!

May 9, 2007 by

So last night I stayed up until midnight, AGAIN, to handle work issues. Poor us. We’ve had some really bad luck lately. Everyone worked really well together in my opinion.

As a result of staying up, Mike told me that I could sleep in this morning. And so I did! It was great. Work life got even better when I went to my 11:00 meeting and the project that we had been working on got canceled all together. That was good news! We got out of the meeting early and so Mike, LeCarla (random), and I drove out to Berthoud to pick up my anniversary cake. It was a nice drive! Everything is so green. Well, green for Colorado. I know this won’t last so I am trying to enjoy it while it lasts.

My afternoon involved TOTALComm and then a clickers meeting. Then Mike and I went to go work out at the Rec Center, which was nice. We did a mile on the track and then the weights. Walking back it began to rain and you could smell the lilacs that had bloomed on campus. It was fantastic!

I got home to Brian and we sat out on the balcony for awhile. It’s so great after a rain. I ate dinner quickly because I wanted to dive into that cake! I didn’t make a ceremony out of it or anything and just went right for it. Soooo yummy!

Here are some pictures that I snapped of it:

Tomorrow night Brian is going to the Rockies game with his boss. I’m planning on doing some cropping. If I come up with anything cool I will post it on this blog.
